# What are Studio Policies?
First, the term "studio" and "program" and "UNLV Percussion Area" and "Percussion Program" and other reasonably similar naming, should be considered interchangeable. Our Studio Policies are the core policies that make up our "Handbook." All "areas" in the School of Music (e.g. Percussion Area, String Area, Jazz Area, etc.) must have handbooks that enumerate each Area's unique expectations and requirements.
Thus, our Studio Policies are legitimate enrollment policies, governing principles, professional and academic expectations, and progression thresholds that, quite literally, make our program *our program.*
## Adherence
All current students are expected to have read and/or have access to and *be able to read* and understand all of these policies, procedures and otherwise that govern their good standing within the program.
Failure to acknowledge or abide by the handbook will likely result in respective course grades being lowered or result in failures. Disregard may also result in disciplinary action directly with the Coordinator and/or School of Music director.
Severe infractions may result in referral to the [Academic Misconduct and Integrity](https://www.unlv.edu/osrr/academic-integrity) office. **"I didn't know" is not an excuse** for disregard or failure to comply with studio policies (or "Handbook Policies").
