# Civility and Conduct Reviews
All students in the UNLV Percussion Area are expected to conduct themselves in a friendly and civil manner. Hostile, rude, or any gradation of abusive or condescending behavior toward peers or faculty will not be tolerated and dealt with severely.
## General rules of civility
- If you offend someone, take accountability and apologize
- If you are offended by someone, tell them calmly why
- Don't take others' items without permission
- If you move others' items that are in the way, do so carefully and let them know
- Absolutely **never** raise your voice at another peer, ever.
- Passive aggression will not be tolerated
## Graduate Student Conduct Reviews
Graduate students take on a tremendous amount of work and stress during their studies. They are responsibility for many operational elements of the program during the school year on top of their own personal responsibilities. Additionally, they all reside and work in close proximity to one another on a day-to-day basis.
Thus, natural conflict and tensions will arise. However, such is life and these instances must be dealt with in a professional and healthy manner.
Each semester, all Graduate Students will be given a Conduct Review sheet by the Coordinator, which outlines general observations (positive, negative, and otherwise) regarding behavior, accountability, and so on. This document intends to keep record of individuals' comportment and growth as a professional.
That said, it is also a written record of potentially negative behaviors and temperament. It is important to understand that the professional world will monitor and document your behaviors and demeanor within various institutions and communities. It is important to start while stakes are low in school, to understand how to work with peers and take accountability *even when it is supremely difficult to do so.*
## Conduct Report Forms
All students will have available to them a Conduct Report Form available from the coordinator. This form is a "last resort" form designed for students to document hostile or otherwise unsavory behavior directed either at themselves or observed toward others.
This form must be retrieved by hand from the coordinator and filled out within 24hrs of any incident experienced. All elements of the form must be filled out completely and honestly.
These forms will be reviewed as they are submitted and any accused individuals will be notified of submissions.
## Mediation
In extremely rare cases, mediation may be necessary between students. **Mediation is not the responsibility of the coordinator or faculty** but may be advised or mandatorily imposed on students. Mediation will occur on a case-by-cases basis and in the manners adherent to University Guidelines.
