# Applied Lessons Grade Components and Weights
Your Applied Lessons grade is not based only on weekly preparation and your end-of-semester Jury. Those matter, but other factors also count.
**Such factors include:**
- Attendance and punctuality at non-class, percussion-related events
- E.g., peer recitals, concerts, guest artist clinics, etc.
- **Attendance and contribution at gear moves**[^1]
- General courtesy and demeanor as a studio member
- Care and diligence when using university equipment and spaces
## Why so many other factors for my grade?
Most students come to lessons prepared and pass their Jury. But a semester here is much more than weekly lessons. With so many events and gear moves, a student can play well for the teacher yet be a poor team player. That behavior has consequences in the real world. Your Applied Lessons grade makes sure your conduct among your peers matches your work in your music.
#### Will you fail me if I'm not a team player?
No. We cannot and will not fail you simply for being unpleasant. We follow [[6.6 University Policies|university policies]] and grade you fairly by the terms in your Applied Lessons Syllabus.

> Every applied syllabus counts these non-musical factors, **so they are legitimate, gradable components.** As in any course, no single area decides your whole grade.
### The Bottom Line
If you:
1. show up prepared and work hard, and
2. avoid being selfish or irresponsible as a studio member,
...you will be just fine.
