# What are Juries?
A Jury is a Performance Exam that (in essence) functions as a "Final Exam" for the student's Applied Lessons course. This exam serves as a student's demonstration of learning and progression by the end of a given semester.
## What to expect
- Students must prepare three separate works illustrating skill on Snare, Timpani, and Keyboard percussion.[^1]
- Students must also sight-read and perform various skills tests on rudiments, scales, and other items as defined by the faculty.
- Students must fill out their [[4.5.2 Jury Forms|Jury Forms]] and provide them to the adjudicating panel
- Undergraduates still completing [[4.3.0 What are Proficiency Minimums|Proficiency Minimums]] must bring copies of their filled minimums sheets for the adjudicating panel.
- Students should arrive 15 minutes before their scheduled time.
- Students should expect to be cut short during their performance for the purposes of time.[^2]
## Schedule and Format
> [!NOTE] Always and Forever
> Percussion Juries are ***always*** on the Monday of Finals Week beginning at 12pm in HFA 235
### Format
- Students will perform their chosen repertoire in the order listed on their Jury Form.
- After their keyboard repertoire performance, they will remain at the board to play scales and sight-reading.
- After their snare drum (or similar) performance, they will remain at the drum to play rudiments and sight-reading.
- After all repertoire and skills are complete, any remaining skills tests (e.g., world percussion, drum set, etc.) will conclude the jury.
- Students will be thanked and should exit the room immediately for the next student to enter.
- There is no formal pre- or post- jury forum or meeting. Once the jury is performed, students are released from any jury-related obligations unless otherwise noted by faculty.
[^1]: Substitutions are permitted with instructor consent
[^2]: This is never punitive and should not be interpreted as a defect of your performance quality
