# Comprehensive Exams Comprehensive Exams ("Comps" or "Qualifying Exams") are a component of MM and DMA study and are typically completed in the final semester (MM) or penultimate semester (DMA) of study. There are two types of Comps ## History Comps (DMA only) History Comps (also known as a "History Qualifying Exam") are administered by the Musicology Area and consist of questions regarding virtually *any and all* possible topics across all of Western music history. The exam typically takes around six hours to complete. **More detailed information, study guides, and clarification on this exam will be available soon.** ## Percussion Comps (MM and DMA) Percussion Comps are administered by the Percussion Area and consists of questions regarding percussion history, literature, pedagogy, *and* specific experiences during your time at UNLV.
